HKGNA MUSIC FESTIVAL 2020
Hong Kong Generation Next Arts (HKGNA) is proud to present our 7th HKGNA Music Festival “To Hong Kong with Love” this October 31- November 28, 2020.
Love is contagious! Music is infectious! In times like this, we turn to the arts for solace and inspiration. In response to COVID-19 and political uncertainties, HKGNA is grateful and honoured to have garnered the support of many different countries’ consulates in a pledge of love and support for Hong Kong. With their support, we are proud to feature our great line up of renowned guest artists to spread the gift of music in all free concerts and events to the Hong Kong community during this very difficult time.
Our opening concert “Music for All Seasons!” will be with the incredible Canadian Chinese Violinist Jing Wang, concertmaster of HK Phil, performing with the top prize winner of Junior Tchaikovsky Competition, Cellist Nan Jia and HKGNA Founder Pianist Michelle Kim. They will perform Piazzolla’s The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires. Second half of the concert will showcase members of Hong Kong Camerata Strings under the direction of Conductor Jeremy Williams performing Vivaldi’s signature piece The Four Seasons. This concert will be on Oct 31, 2020, 8pm at Tai Kwun JC Cube supported by the Consulate General of Canada in Hong Kong and Macao.
HKGNA is proud to co-present “Love and Harmony” with the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Hong Kong and the Korean Cultural Center in Hong Kong on Nov 2, 2020, 8pm at HKAPA JC Amphitheatre. We will showcase an all-star line-up of Korean/Hong Kong artists performing in this special concert. We will feature a chamber music performance by Violinist Andrew Ling, Cellist Siwon Park,Violinist Euna Kim, Pianist Yoonie Han and HKGNA Founder Pianist Michelle Kim. We are excited to present the Asia Premiere of two incredible works by Korean Composer Texu Kim: Arirang, the Love Sonata and Mountain Village. The Asia Premiere and other great works will be performed by Soprano Yuki Ip, Tenor Chen Yong, Violist Chris Choi, Violinist Andy Yeung, Pianist Michael Mak and Hong Kong’s top young artist orchestra under the direction of Conductor Andrew Ling.
HKGNA is proud to launch its inaugural virtual concert “Dutch Arts Splendid” on Nov 19, 2020, 8pm (GMT+8) by the finest Dutch Violinist Tosca Opdam, sublime Violist Dana Zemtsov and great Pianist Anna Fedorova, co-presented with the Netherlands Consulate General in Hong Kong and Macau. This virtual concert experience will connect artwork and Van Gogh’s letters with musical themes in a cultural collaboration with the Van Gogh Museum Amsterdam.
Finally, true to our mission to nurture and inspire our best young Hong Kong Artists, we will present our signature Stars and Friends Concert, presenting Hong Kong’s fantastic young artists Violinist Andy Yeung, Pianist Louis Ng, Flutist Chloe Leung, Virtus String Quartet (Violinists: Nina Wong, Vivian Shen, Violist Martin Kuo and Cellist Calvin Wong) and Mezzo-Soprano Ashley Chui. Also presenting HK’s Rising Stars Violinist Blues Zhang and Sophie Chung, HKGNA Music Competition winner Violinist Charlotte Woo, Pianist Malcolm Mok and HKGNA Stars & Friends: Lyrical Leggero Soprano Michelle Tsui, and Tenor Patrick Yeung. This concert will be on Nov 9, 2020, 7:30pm at Sheung Wan Civic Centre Theatre.
We also organise a series of Global Online Music Therapy Events “Music Heals!” in the spirit of Wellness. This event features experienced music therapists and educators; including Dr. Ken Aigen, Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapist and Program Director of NYU/ Steinhardt Music Therapy; Dr. Irene Feher, Voice Professor at Concordia University’s Department of Music, Dr. Chong Hyun Ju, the Chair of Music Therapy at Ewha Womans University, as well as inspiring autism advocate, Aaltje van Zweden, Founder of Papageno Foundation and the Head of their music therapist project, Mathieu Pater. This series is supported by the U.S. Consulate General Hong Kong and Macau, Consulate General of Canada in Hong Kong and Macao, the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Hong Kong and the Korean Cultural Center in Hong Kong, Netherlands Consulate General in Hong Kong and Macau, as well as the Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong.
