- For Hong Kong Applicants -
Categories
- Piano Solo: any recital repertoire at the applicant’s discretion
- Piano Concerto: any concerto repertoire at the applicant’s discretion
- Violin/Viola: any repertoire including concerto at the applicant’s discretion
- Cello/Double Bass: any repertoire including concerto at the applicant’s discretion
- Chamber Music: Duo/Trio/Quartet/Quintet/Sextet/Septet/Octet: any repertoire at the applicant’s discretion
Contestants are welcome to join more than one category
Ages (as of Sept 1, 2023)
Junior Division
- Age 13 & below
- Piano Solo or Concerto: Single work of recital or one movement of concerto repertoire
- Violin/ Viola: Single work of recital or concerto repertoire
- Cello/ Bass: Single work of recital or concerto repertoire
- Preliminary Audition: maximum 10 minutes
- Semi-final: maximum 15 minutes
- Final: maximum around 15 minutes
Senior Division
- Age 14-18 (must be in Hong Kong secondary/ high school)
- Piano Solo: Two contrasting works of recital repertoire
- Piano Concerto: One movement of concerto repertoire
- Strings: Two contrasting works of recital or concerto repertoire
- Preliminary Audition: minimum 10 minutes
- Semi-final: minimum 10 minutes
- Final: maximum around 15-20 minutes
Young Artists Division
- Age 18 & above college students
- Piano Solo: Two contrasting works of recital repertoire
- Piano Concerto: One movement of concerto repertoire
- Strings: Two contrasting works of recital or concerto repertoire
- Preliminary Audition: maximum 15 minutes
- Semi-final: minimum 15 minutes
- Final: less than 30 minutes
Chamber Music Junior Division
- Age 18 & below*
- Chamber Music: Single work of chamber music repertoire, at the applicants’ discretion
- Preliminary Audition: maximum 15 minutes
- Semi-final: minimum 15 minutes
- Final: less than 30 minutes
*Dominant age of the members determine the category
Chamber Music Young Artist Division
- Age 18-25*
- Chamber Music: Two contrasting works of chamber music repertoire, at the applicants’ discretion
- Preliminary Audition: maximum 15 minutes
- Semi-final: minimum 15 minutes
- Final: less than 30 minutes
*Dominant age of the members determine the category
Jury Special Prize Division
- Age 25 & below
- Hong Kong Residents only
- HKGNA is committed to serving our next generation of young artists including those with disadvantaged circumstances and those that need special attention and nurturing. Therefore, a special prize will be awarded at the Jury’s discretion to a contestant who demonstrates musical talent and financial need.
- In addition to the regular requirements, the contestant must write a statement limited to 100 words on why he or she should be considered for this special prize. The contestant (or parent(s) if below 18) must submit a recent Hong Kong Tax Return as proof of income to demonstrate financial need. No application fee is required.

- Strings: Two contrasting works of recital or concerto repertoire, at the applicant’s discretion

- Preliminary Audition: minimum 10 minutes
- Semi-final: minimum 10 minutes
- Final: maximum 15-20 minutes
