HKGNA摯友
Nancy Loo is one of Hong Kong’s most versatile artists, as pianist, radio programme host, actress and writer. She was a recipient of the Ten Outstanding Young Persons Award in 1978. She currently teaches piano at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and The Chinese University of Hong Kong and is often invited to host music talks and master-classes, and to serve as a juror for piano competitions.
Ms. Loo attended the Juilliard School on scholarship, where she studied with Adele Marcus. After graduating with a Master’s degree, she studied with Vlado Perlemuter in Paris and Guido Agosti in Italy. She was first prizewinner at the Fourth Rina Sala Gallo International Competition in Monza in 1976, and has won many other international competitions, including the Marguerite Long International Competition in Paris.
As a pianist, Loo has given solo recitals and performed with orchestras in England, Europe, North America and Asia. Locally, she has appeared in the Hong Kong Arts Festival Orchestra and the Hong Kong Sinfonietta. A keen promoter of contemporary music, she has participated in the annual Musicarama and the ISCM World Music Days Festival. She has also played the piano part for the soundtrack of several Hong Kong films and television series. Her recordings include a piano solo album of Christian music, Ambush and Moonlight on Spring River with the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra and piano works by local composers.
Born in Guilin, China, Jing Wang is currently the Concert Master of HK Philharmonic. He made his first public appearance in Marseille, France and his concerto debut aged nine with the Quebec Symphony Orchestra, Canada. Subsequent engagements have taken him across North America and Europe and include concerto appearances with the Czech Radio Philharmonic, Moscow State Symphony, Montreal Symphony and Metropolitan Orchestra of Montreal. Jing Wang has given solo recitals and chamber music performances at prestigious venues including the National Arts Center in Ottawa and throughout Canada where his performances are frequently broadcast on CBC Radio-Canada.
Jing Wang has been the recipient of first prizes in numerous international competition including the Irving M. Klein International Competition, Concertino Praga, Montreal Symphony Competition and the Canadian Music Competition.
We are thrilled to introduce the sensational Croatian violinist Tomislav Ištok. This young brilliant violinist has performed around the globe as a chamber musician and as soloist with numerous orchestras. He has won many national and international competitions including top prize in the “Alfredo Marcosig international Competition” in Italy. A versatile artist, Tomislv has been involved in numerous film and theatre music. He is currently a member of the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra.
Ada Pong is a soprano opera singer who graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree from the Manhattan School of Music in 2014. She has studied under three internationally renowned singers including Neil Roesenshein, Ashley Putnam and Joan Patenaude-Yarnell. During college, she performed La Doriclea by Cavalli and held two solo recitals featuring works by Barber, Donaudy, Handel, Strauss, Schubert, Massenet and Delibes.
Ada has a great passion in music and has received formal training since she was young. Besides passing Grade 8 singing and piano ABRSM exam at an early age, she was also an active member of the school choir while she was studying in Diocesan Girls’ Junior School and Diocesan Girls’ School. In addition, she was also a member of the Hong Kong Children’s Choir where she was chosen to perform a wide variety of repertoire (from European secular and scared works to Chinese and African folks) in the music tours in the United Kingdom, Vienna, Austria and Hungry. At the age of sixteen, she continued her studies in Wyoming Seminary Preparatory School in Pennsylvania, where she also joined the Madrigal concert tours in Hungary and Germany.
Ada is always eager to take on new challenges. She interned in the Public Relation department at Arte Madrid, Pegasus Fund Managers Ltd., Metro Broadcast Ltd. in Hong Kong, and also at Preston Bailey, the prestigious event and wedding planning company in the New York City. After she graduated from the Manhattan School of Music, she worked as an Assistant Manager at Abercrombie and Fitch. Ada was awarded the first-runner up of Miss Hong Kong 2015 where she performed Les filles de Cadix by Delibes in the semi-finals and “You raise me up” with Becky Lee in the final.
Mr. Patrick Yeung, general manager of Cathay Pacific, Taiwan and Korea has a longtime passion for classical music and philanthropy. Mr. Yeung started his singing journey as a member of the St. Paul’s Co-Educational College choir under the baton of Mr Jimmy Chan. Mr. Yeung has performed as a soloist in numerous charitable/fundraising concerts in Hong Kong and has helped raised money for many charities including Medecins Sand Frontieres Hong Kong, Arts with Diasabled Association, LifeLine Express, and Opera Prima Society to name a few. Mr. Yeung has performed with the Hong Kong Philharmonic, Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra and Opera Hong Kong. He has performed extensively in Asia and US, including Beijing, Singapore, Taiwan, Manila, Shanghai and New York’s Carnegie Weill Recital Hall. Mr. Yeung has been studying Bel Canto singing with world renowned professor NI Cheng Feng since the late 90’s.
HKGNA 新星
Yue Zhang started his piano training at the age of seven. He is currently pursuing his Master degree in Hong Kong Academy For Performing Arts under the tutelage of Prof. Gabriel Kwok. He has won Grand Prize at HKGNA music competition and made his triumphant New York Debut concert at the Carnegie Weill Recital Hall New York Debut July, 2015 with rousing standing ovation. He also won many top prizes including Silver prize at Tokyo International Piano Competition in Asia. Yue has performed as a soloist with the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, Xiamen Symphony Orchestra and Hong Kong Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra,Academy Symphony Orchestra. He was invited to give performance in Shantou University, Shenzhen concert hall etc. 2014 he was invited to make his debut concert in Italy, and Release his first CD named “Hong Kong Piano Marathon Studium”and the concert was broadcasted to cities in Europe by classical music channel radio 3 Rai. He was also invited to perform at HKGNA Music Festival 2014 “ Stars of Today and Tomorrow” concert. He has participated in master classes of Russell Sherman,Hung-Kuan Chen,Dan Zhaoyi, Jerome Lowenthal and Anton Kuerti etc. Yue is the awardee of The Talent Development Scholarship from The HKSAR Government and YAMAHA Scholarship.
Wong Sze Yuen is 16 years old and has studied with Huang Tian-Dong at the Xinghai Conservatory of Music. In 2008, he enrolled at the Junior School of The HK Academy for Performing Arts and studied with Wang Nan and subsequently with Professor Gabriel Kwok in 2010. Wong Sze Yuen has won many competition prizes including the HKGNA Music Competition 2014 زJury Special Prize” given to the most outstanding artist in all categories; a Gold medal in the 1st National Piano Grading excellent players Showcase Competition (Grade 9); first prize of the Amateur Class, Group C, in the 75th Steinway & Sons International Youth Piano Competition (2011); third prize of the Open Class in 17th Hong Kong ذ Asia Piano Open Competition in 2012; and second prize and classic sonata prize of The 1st Korea International Competition for Young Pianists. He was also invited to perform at HKGNA Music Festival 2014 “ Stars of Today and Tomorrow” concert.
Valerie is a student of Prof. Eleanor Wong of HKAPA. She has won numerous prizes including 2nd Prize in the International Piano Competition for Young Musicians, Enschede, the Netherlands 2012 with Press Award and Audience Award, 1st Prize & Professional Grand Prize at the 75th Steinway & Sons International Youth Piano Competition and performed at Art Festival 2012 held in Hamburg representing China, 1st Prize at the 65th Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod in Wales UK, 1st Prize at HKGNA Music Competition 2014 Piano Senior Division, etc. She has collaborated twice with the Hong Kong Children’s Symphony Orchestra and Hong Kong Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra as a sololist. She has also performed in piano masterclasses with Gary Graffman, Sequeria Costa, Alexander
Braginsky, Lang Lang and more. In 2013, Wong was awarded the Certificate of Commendation by the HKSAR Gov. for her outstanding achievements in the promotion of international arts and culture activities.
Born into a musical family in 1992, Xingji Piao began to study the piano at age four and is currently studying with Professor Gabriel Kwok at HKAPA. Showing great promise from an early age, he won many competitions including Second Prize and three special prizes at the 11th Grieg International Piano Competition in Norway (2010); Grand Prize at the HKGNA New York Debut Piano Competition (and subsequent acclaimed debut at the New York Carnegie Hall (2010)); and Second Prize at the 21st International Piano Competition زRome 2011” in Italy (2011). Piao has performed with the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra and the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra, and around the world in Austria, Poland and Hungary. In 2013, he gave a solo recital at the 41st Hong Kong Arts Festival.
International award-winning pianist Liyan He’s major teachers include Gabriel Kwok(The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts), Chengzong Yin, Zhe Tang(Shanghai Conservatory of Music) and Jintian Kang(Shenzhen Arts School).
Hailed as the Young Talent from the Far East for his concert in Israel, Liyan has Performed at Carnegie Hall, Peking University, the Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Festival, Pianofest in the Hamptons, Beijing International Music Festival and Academy, and HKGNA Music Festival. He has performed concertos with Xiamen Philharmonic, Hong Kong Tak Ming Philharmonic, and HKAPA Symphony Orchestra under the batons of Song Gao, Colin Touchin, and Alan Cumberland. Recently, Liyan released a CD featuring his concert in Italy broadcast by Radio 3 RAI, and performed the complete Mozart Sonatas for Piano and Violin with Violinist Felix Wong at Hong Kong City Hall.
