HKGNA MUSIC FESTIVAL 2018


The stage is set for the 5th edition of the HKGNA Music Festival! Presenting a spectacular series of concerts and events, HKGNA is proud to feature our greatest line up yet of renowned international guest artists performing with Hong Kong’s best musicians and HKGNA’s emerging artists.

We are proud to present Grammy award-winning violinist James Ehnes, performing with pianist Andrew Armstrong. Known for his virtuosity and probing musicianship, James Ehnes is one of the foremost violinists of his generation. He has performed in over 35 countries, appearing regularly in the world’s great concert halls with the most celebrated orchestras and conductors. Mr. Ehnes is the youngest person ever elected as a fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and made a Member of the Order of Canada. Pianist Andrew Armstrong has dazzled audiences throughout the world, including performances at Alice Tully Hall, Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center. He has performed with such conductors as Peter Oundjian, Itzhak Perlman, Günther Herbig, Stefan Sanderling, Jean-Marie Zeitouni, and Stanislaw Skrowaczewski, and has appeared in solo recitals in chamber music concerts with the Elias, Alexander, American, and Manhattan String Quartets, and also as a member of the Caramoor Virtuosi, Boston Chamber Music Society, Seattle Chamber Music Society, and the Jupiter Symphony Chamber Players.

We are also honored to have the amazing Sejong Soloists for “An Evening of Strings. ”Hailed as “one of the top ensembles of today” by CNN, Sejong Soloists is a string orchestra formed by acclaimed Juilliard Professor Hyo Kang. The ensemble has engraved the words “Korea” and “Sejong” deep into the minds of a worldwide audience, with over 500 concerts in 120 cities across the globe. The members of Sejong Soloists: Violinist William Wei, Violist Paul Laraia, Cellist Na-Young Baek are joined by Hong Kong’s best string players, Violinist Jing Wang, Yingna Zhao, Rami Yoo, Violist Andrew Ling, and Cellist Richard Bamping. “An Evening of Strings” will be a night to Remember!

Also true to our mission to nurture and inspire our best young Hong Kong Artists, we will present our signature HKGNA Stars and Friends concert. This year we are proud to present Hong Kong’s leading and finest string player, violist Andrew Ling performing with HKGNA’s best young artists, including our HKGNA Music Competition winners: Grand Prize Winner, Pianist Wong Sze Yuen (2016), Pianist Liyan He (2010), 1st Prize Winner junior piano division, Pianist Grace Cheung (2016). We also feature Rising Star Violist Elanna Mak, HKGNA/ADA Musical Angel Pianist Lee Shing, Lee Hysan Foundation /ADA Musical Angel, Erhu player Ethen Yang; we also present HKGNA’s very own wonderful tenor Patrick Yeung!

And finally, with our goal of advancing public awareness of the benefits of music therapy, we will present a series of Free Music Therapy Workshops with esteemed educator Dr. Kenneth Aigen, Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapist, Program Director of NYU/ Steinhardt.
