HKGNA MUSIC FESTIVAL 2019
We proudly present the 6th edition of our Hong Kong Generation Next Arts (HKGNA) Music Festival! A spectacular series of concerts and events, this year’s festival features our greatest line up yet of renowned international guest artists performing with Hong Kong’s preeminent virtuosos and HKGNA’s own rising stars. What makes our HKGNA festival unique is the international support we garner through our relationships with a number of foreign consulates in Hong Kong who sponsor our festival and share our passion for performing arts and Hong Kong’s talented youth!
This year’s theme is “Celebrating Great Women Artists of the World!” As this year marks the 200th birthday of undeniably one of the greatest female pianists and composers of the 19th Century, Clara Schumann, we pay tribute to her in our celebration of Great Women Artists of the World! Our festival kicks off with the acclaimed Canadian Pianist Angela Cheng, performing with Philharmonia APA under the baton of Sharon Andrea Choa, Dean of Music of Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA), on November 3, 3pm at the Concert Hall. The concert is supported by the Canadian Consulate and Canadian Council for the Arts. Ms. Cheng will also give masterclasses at HKAPA on November 4.
We are also proud to co-present with the Korean Consulate General in Hong Kong and the Korean Cultural Center in Hong Kong, the phenomenal Violinist Clara- Jumi Kang and amazing Pianist Yeol Eum Son in a “Duo Recital of two Great Musical Divas” on November 10, 3:00pm at HKAPA.
We are excited to co-present with the Netherlands Consulate General in Hong Kong and Macao, the extraordinary Dutch Cellist Quirine Viersen and Pianist Thomas Beijer with Hong Kong’s best youth string ensemble, Hong Kong Camerata Strings and Conductor Jeremy Williams on November 19, 7:30pm at Tai Kwun. Ms. Viersen will also offer Masterclasses and a workshop for Hong Kong youth.
We are showcasing our Stars and Friends of HKGNA in a special concert presentation “In Perfect Harmony”. It’s a musical collaboration with Hong Kong’s top classical musicians, HKGNA Competition Winners and our very own HKGNA Musical Angels in a free concert on Nov 11, 7:30pm at St John’s Cathedral.
Our finale concert is with an internationally renowned violinist and celebrated teacher from Juilliard School, Violinist Catherine Cho. She will be performing our final concert on November 21, 7:30pm at Tai Kwun with Hong Kong emerging young pianist Matthew Chan, Violist Yang Fan and Bauhinia Trio: violinist Zheng Yang, pianist Xingji Piao, our 2010 HKGNA New York Debut Piano Competition Winner, and cellist Jia Nan. Catherine will also give masterclass at HKAPA on November 20. These concerts and masterclasses will be supported by the Korean Government, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Korean Consulate General in Hong Kong.
